The collection and museum setting

The museum began with Dallas businessman and philanthropist Algur H. Meadows, who donated his private collection of Spanish paintings and funds to Southern Methodist University in 1962. It opened to the public in 1965.

What to combine with a visit
The museum sits within the SMU campus setting, making the campus surroundings a natural complement to time spent with the collection. SMU’s visitor-parking guidance also identifies the George W. Bush Presidential Center and the Meadows Museum as stops served by DART’s Museum Express (Route 743), so you can consider both when planning a campus-area outing.
